This photo is of the Teatro Romano, which was built in approximately 15 BC to hold some 6000 spectators. It has a two-tier backdrop of stone columns that has preserved well over the years.

Mérida
Our first stop was in Mérida, which is a city that was once the capital of the Roman province of Lusitania, the largest city on the Iberian Peninsula and its political and cultural capital. Therefore, it is of no surprise that present-day Mérida is known for its Roman ruins.
