The first on our list of sights to see in A Coruña was its famous lighthouse, the Torre de Hércules. According to myth, Hercules built the original lighthouse just after he slayed Gerion, the giant who was terrorizing the townspeople. All that we know for sure is that the Romans built a lighthouse in the 2nd century, which was later used as a fort and restored in a Neoclassical style in 1791.
