Downtown St. Louis

Since we were staying in downtown St. Louis, it made sense to walk to and from places as opposed to fighting the traffic and battling for parking. After lunch we started the walk to the City Museum about a mile and a half away....

Toasted Ravioli!

By the time we finally made it to St. Louis after we battled a horrific traffic jam, our bellies were rubbing our backbones, i.e. we needed food and in a bad way!

We decided to venture across the street to Caleco's and gorged ourselves on toasted ravioli, which are filled with meat, covered in breadcrumbs, and then deep-fried. They're a St. Louis specialty that are hard not to like!

Leaving Downtown Kansas City

With full bellies, we drove through downtown Kansas City before taking I-70 back to Lawrence.

Arriving to Kansas City

After I had time to recover from the jet lag of going to Brazil, Brian and I decided to spend the day in Kansas City, Missouri on June 21st. These were some of the pictures that I took while we were driving into town from Lawrence, Kansas.

Centro do Rio de Janeiro

After we left Praça XV, we walked around the downtown area before arriving to our final destination, the Catedral Metropolitana.

This is the view out over the Praça XV in downtown Rio de Janeiro.

Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo

The Old Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro, or the "Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo," is an old Carmelite church which served as the Cathedral of Rio de Janeiro from 1808 to 1976. It is located on the Praça XV square in downtown Rio de Janeiro and is one of the most historically important churches in the city.

Travessa do Comércio

Travessa do Comércio, one of downtown Rio's oldest streets, was just a few minutes walking from where the exposition on favelas was being held.

Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Candelária

The next stop on our tour of downtown Rio was the Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Candelária. As the history has it, the original church, which dates from the late 16th century, was constructed by a ship's captain who was nearly shipwrecked at sea. Upon his safe return to Brazil, he vowed to erect a church dedicated to Nossa Senhora de Candelária.

The present-day church was built between 1775 and 1894, and Nossa Senhora de Candelária existed as the largest and wealthiest church in imperial Brazil, with the interior being a combination of Renaissance and Baroque influences.
