To get to North Carolina, I bought a one-way ticket so that I could drive back with Brian's mom, Jan. She was planning on spending a week with us out in Kansas, so it made it a little easier for her to have a driving buddy for at least some of the trip. Plus, with 17 1/2 hours in a car together, I feel like we definitely got to know one another better!
