Basilica di San Pietro

Once we finished touring the Musei Vaticani, we proceeded on to the Basilica di San Pietro, or St. John's Basilica. As the site where Saint Peter was buried, it is considered one of the holy sites of the world.

The Basilica di San Pietro along with the Basilica of St. John Lateran, Santa Maggiore, and St. Paul (outside the city's walls) compose the city's four major basilicas. Although it is not the highest ranked of Rome's churches, a status belonging to the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Basilica de San Pietro, whose dome dominates the Roman skyline, is the most famous.
