Maximón enjoying a Rubio….
After Maximón got a bath, Claire and I sat down with him to have a Rubio, a Guatemalan brand of cigarettes. Undoubtedly, there is something to be said for a cigarette that does not have the flame repellent chemicals in them that the ones in the States have. Poor Maximón would have been chappy had he not gotten to enjoy his entire smoke!

Maximón
Maximón is a saint that is venerated by the Mayan communities in the Highlands of Guatemala with offerings of liquor, cigars, candles, cigarettes, and other miscellaneous items.
Here is some more information on Maximón: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxim%C3%B3n
When we first arrived to the Wuqu' Kawoq house in Santiago Sacatepéquez, Maximón was in dire need of a bath. After finding these little tiny silver worms under his necklaces, we decided there was no other option. We collaboratively worked toward cleaning poor Maximón up - here are some pictures of our efforts.
