Because I was a little paranoid about missing my flight, I ended up taking the first bus out of Morelia. After driving the 4 hours to Mexico City, I arrived at the airport a full 5 hours early.
All was good, though. I caught a soccer game while feasting on some chicken enchiladas and then managed to stumble upon this exposition on Mayan civilization in the airport.
The next morning, I woke up bright and early to check out of the hotel and take a bus from Morelia to México D.F. to go to the airport and start the journey back home to Kansas. These are some of the pictures that I took along the highway.
After we got back to Morelia from Tzintzuntzan, I decided to walk around Morelia with my new friends from the conference, Laura and Gerardo. We started our little tour around dusk and decided to call it a night just after dark.
As you can tell by my gigantic plate of food, the luncheon was fabulous. I have never eaten so many wonderful things in all of my life. There was even a woman making homemade ready-to-order enchiladas on a large skillet. Topping it off with an horchata water to drink, I was quite content. And with such fine company, what more could you ask for?
The Ex-Convento de San Francisco is a religious compound built partly with stones from the Tarascan site located just up the hill which the Spanish demolished. Of significance during the colonial period in Mexico, this site is where Franciscan monks began the Spanish missionary effort in Michoacán during the sixteenth century.
Before we got out to the back courtyard where the tables were set up, we toured the inside and got to try some locally made tequila.
