Kansas State Capitol Building - Topeka, KS

The Kansas State Capitol Building is one of the largest capitol domes in the United States, even surpassing that of the United States Capitol. For our visit, we decided to go on one of the daily tours of the dome, which meant that we had 296 stairs to tackle to get to the top.

And, like any good building in Kansas, there is even a designated tornado shelter!

Brian and Abraham Lincoln

While we were walking around the grounds of the Capitol State Building, Brian spotted a statue from afar of Abraham Lincoln. After some scheming, Brian seized the moment and hopped on ol' Abe Lincoln's lap for a millisecond to snap a picture and then quickly abandoned ship.

Kansas State Capitol Building January 2009

Since Brian and I had the day off for Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday in January, we spent the day in Topeka, KS. We stopped by the State Capitol Buildng, but all we could see was the outside. I suppose we should have thought about it being a national holiday before attempting to visit a government building - haha!
