On our way back from Topeka, we stopped at this little lake to see the sunset. It was so cold that the whole lake was frozen solid. So much so, in fact, that when I threw a golf ball at it, it bounced clear to the other side as opposed to breaking through the ice.
For Brian, the highlight of our day in Topeka was the Combat Air Museum, which is located on Forbes Field just outside of the city. The museum has a number of planes, equipment, and memorabilia dating from WWI to the present day. For more information, visit their website: http://www.combatairmuseum.org/.
While we were walking around the grounds of the Capitol State Building, Brian spotted a statue from afar of Abraham Lincoln. After some scheming, Brian seized the moment and hopped on ol' Abe Lincoln's lap for a millisecond to snap a picture and then quickly abandoned ship.
Since Brian and I had the day off for Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday in January, we spent the day in Topeka, KS. We stopped by the State Capitol Buildng, but all we could see was the outside. I suppose we should have thought about it being a national holiday before attempting to visit a government building - haha!
After we finished visiting the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, it was time to leave Kansas City, MO and start the drive on I-70 back to Lawrence, KS.
Aside from visiting the main plaza in downtown Kansas City, one of our main goals was to visit the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. For more information, visit the museum's rather informative website: http://www.kemperart.org/.
