Near the Praça do Infante is the Mercado de Escravos (slave market) where the first sale of African slaves took place in 1441.
Nowadays, it serves as an art gallery which displays various artists and exhibitions. While we were there, we got to see some oil canvases by Antero Anastácio, who was actually present to talk to us a little bit about his work.
